One Letter Off
Film & Poster Design
A Discover Design 2026 Competition
Conceptualized and Curated by The Design Venue
Group Competition - 2 to 3 members
OVERVIEW:
Think of your favourite movie. Are you up for the challenge of changing a letter from its title and having the meaning change completely?
Imagine Iron Man became Iron Men. Now, the story is about men who press clothes for a living, instead of owning billion dollar tech companies! How will that affect the already established world of the original movie? How will the characteristics or the characters change?
As a team of 2-3, your task is to shoot an ad for one movie of your choice by adding (or removing) one (or a couple) letters from its title. May it be interchanging just the vowels or adding a different, but very similar sounding word. This is your chance to create an advertisement and a poster for a film, but with a twist!
Who can Participate?
-
Junior category: students studying in grades 9, 10, 11, and 12
-
Senior category: Students pursuing undergraduate degrees; All interested and aspiring filmmakers, designers, storytellers, creative minds, artists, and thinkers.
(Team Size: 2-3 participants; one submission per team)
Schools can send in multiple teams.
TASK:
Shoot an ad changing the letters of the title of existing movies in English* with a related poster. You will have to submit:
-
A 90 second video advertising the new movie after adding or removing from the original title.
-
A hand-drawn (A3 size) movie-like poster that reflects your ad using ONLY traditional, non-digital mediums.
-
A write-up (max 250 words) describing the concept of the ad and/or the poster.
*The majority of the ad must be in English. However, if it is necessary, you can add in exclamations or phrases from any language (should be PG13 and inoffensive) if it adds to the comedy of your video.
Unleash your creativity sprinkled in with sarcasm and humor and create something brilliant!
